IDGN Indie Groundbreaker Awards 2020

The INDIE GROUNDBREAKER AWARDS are presented annually by the IGDN. They are designed to shine a spotlight on excellence in the indie game design community. These awards recognize games (and game designers) who are creating new and exciting game designs that push the boundaries in innovation, in promoting diversity, and in expanding what it means to be “indie.”

And MAZES got nominated for BEST RULES! Chris and the team are honored and excited. The awards will be given out on July 29th! Cross those fingers, cross those swords!

The 9th Level Team has sent out all of the DOMESTIC and CANADIAN orders of the latest Kickstarter - as well as all of BOOK 5 SPRING, the newest MAZES book. International Orders are still being held until we get all 5 Season Books ready (hopefully later this fall).

A few people have pinged and asked for updates.  Our printing partner is in Philadelphia which has suffered police curfews and other problems - which has delayed our project by a few days.  We expect to get the original 4 books and the new book 5 TUESDAY or WEDNESDAY of next week.  Everything else is here and ready to go - dice, Zine boxes, stamps, shipping boxes, etc.

Our country is in a lot of turmoil right now. 9th Level  Games  firmly supports the Black Lives Matter movement! Please  donate where you can. Use your privilege and your voice to support  systematic change. We are doing the same.

We will have a full update when everything is in hand and we start shipping.

Gather round my stalwart companions, I have exciting tales to share.

MAZES 2nd Printing Edit Overhaul and Errata

As part of the this process, we went through the existing 4 MAZES books and updated all the errata - and made a few SMALL BUT IMPACTFUL changes to the core of the game.  For anyone that has the (now totally sold out and collectible 1st printing) we will be including an ERRATA BOOKLET that includes - the map missing from MONSTER, the Treasure rules from MAZE, the updated DARKNESS rules (also included in Book 5), and the Hearts & Darkness switch that streamlines hazards.

All of this editing and updates are COMPLETE, waiting on final copy editing.

BOOK 5 - The Gazetteer of Spring

Book 5 is completely written, edited, and ready for layout.  Actually, I'm going to be laying it out this afternoon!  It's rad.  You're all gonna love the HAUNTED LIBRARIAN and FREED DJINN classes, the FROST PHOENIX hazard, and a ton of new information on SKY MAGIC.  SPOILERS!

FIREBALL REOPENS

Mazes has been printed exclusively by our friends at FIREBALL PRINTING in Philadelphia.  During the pandemic, they have been shut down - but have just reopened production.  That means that we can print the reprint and the new books.  We are shipping the docs to FIREBALL next week.

THAT SWEET SWEET PAPER

Part of the look and feel of the MAZES zines is that awesome paper.  We are waiting on that shipment from the supplier (which has been delayed due to the dreaded 19.  This shouldn't be a big hurdle, its just taking much longer than expected (which is actually to be expected, lol).

BOXES & DICE

We have searched the world high and low for the right suppliers for DICE and the BOX.  We are happy to say that we think we found the box, and that we have received ALL of the DICE.  Here is picture of the amazing dice from BLACK OAK WORKSHOP (that also did the Gary Con dice this year).  The dice are slightly oversize - with HUGE numbers.  They have a great style and feel to them - we think you'll love them.

THE ROAD AHEAD APPEARS CLEAR

Next update should be that we are shipping out the reprints and BOOK 5.  Fingers and rabbits feet crossed.

My Stalwart Adventurers,

9th Level wanted to let you know where we were with the MAZES JOURNAL project - as the Dark Lord Covid XIX has destroyed the land and sown plague and suffering.  Like all wise folks, we are sheltered in place here in Philadelphia, and await the overthrow to resume our adventures.  

With the closures, our printer for the MAZES books is closed.  We plan to be ready when they reopen to print and ship, but we are restricted in this.

We have completed our internal review of the original 4 books.  We have integrated the errata (missing some information on Treasure, and the Map for the 3rd adventure in Monster).  We have made some other corrections.  We have updated the rules around DARKNESS and TREASURE that I totally love.

SIDE QUEST:  If you have found any typos or questions in the core rulebooks - let us know.  We have time to fix them.  You can email us at [email protected], or hit us up on the DISCORD - leave a note in the #makethisbetter channel.

We are mostly finished the text of the first 3 JOURNAL books (just waiting on Chris the Evil Wizard to add some flouncy purple prose), and they will go to editing.  We are VERY excited to get this content to you.  It's some great stuff.
